Early Life

Nicholas Lou Saban Jr. came into this world as a child to Mary and Nick Lou Saban Sr. He is widely known by the name Nick Saban. He was born on 31st October, 1951, in Fairmont, West Virginia. He is of Croatian descent. Actually, his grandfather, Stanko Saban, was born in Gospic, in the Lika region of Croatia, but Stanko immigrated to Portland, Oregon, in 1908 at the age of 13. He and his sister, Dianna, grew up together. He is a Catholic devotee, he used to attend Mass before games. His father died when he was in his first year of graduate school.

Education

He graduated from Monongah High School, situated in Monongah, West Virginia. He received a bachelor’s degree in business from Kent State University in 1973. Under coach Don James, he played defensive back for Kent State. He then received his master’s degree in sports administration from Kent State in 1975.

Personal Life

Saban married Terry Constable on December 18, 1971, while both were studying at Kent State University. She is also from West Virginia. They have been happily married for over 50 years, unlike other celebrities whose relationships can’t survive longer. They are committed to each other. She plays an important role in his successful career. The beautiful couple have two adopted children, Nicholas and Kristen. They go for vacation on Lake Burton where he owns a vacation home and also purchased a beach house in Jupiter, Florida in 2023.

Career and Profession

Initially, Saban had no intention of pursuing a career in coaching football. But his fate took him to his destination. Don James, a well-known football player and coach, hired him as a graduate assistant at Kent State while his wife was completing her graduation. After that, he served as an assistant coach at several schools, including Ohio State, Michigan State, West Virginia, etc. and in NCAA Division I-A.

He was longing to be hired as the head coach at Kent State, but they hired Dick Crum instead. At that time, he was hired as an assistant for the Houston Oilers in the NFL.

On December 22, 1989, he started his career as a head coach at University of Toledo. Then went on to become head coach from Cleveland Browns to Michigan State and later from LSU to Miami Dolphins and ultimately made it to Alabama as the 27th head coach.

He led the Crimson Tide to win six national championships, four Heisman Trophy winners, and nine SEC titles. He made a record of 292-71-1.

He has an estimated net worth of $80 million. He was the highest-paid college football head coach in the world in his last days at Alabama. He earned around $130 million as salary and bonuses from his 17 seasons in coaching at Alabama.
