Who is Minnie Mae Hood Presley?

Minnie Mae Presley was the wife of Jessie D. McDowell Presley and they married on July 20, 1913. The couple had their first child on April 10, 1916. His name was Vernon Presley. Minnie and her husband went ahead and welcomed four other children: Vester, Gladys Erlene, Delta Mae, and Rev. Nashval Lorene.

Minnie’s Separation

For unmentioned reasons, Minnie’s marriage slowly deteriorated and she parted ways with her husband. Following the separation, Minnie moved in to live with her son, Vernon. Her son was by this time married to Gladys and they had a son, Elvis Presley. They relocated from Tupelo to Memphis. Minnie had her official divorce in 1954.

Minnie shared a strong bond with her grandson Elvis. She even traveled with him to Germany when he was stationed there. Elvis appreciated how tough and determined his grandmother was and how she always came up with a plan no matter what came her way.

Minnie’s Death

Minnie lived a good life and did an excellent job at spending her best moments with her son and grandson. However, she died on May 8, 1980, in Memphis. She is buried at the Meditation Garden in Graceland. She lies near her son Vernon, her grandson, Elvis, and her daughter-in-law Gladys.
