Catherine was born in 1983 to Crystal Gayle and Bill Gatzimos. When she was young, her mother continued working frequently. Gayle would go off-stage to breastfeed Clare before continuing with another show. Her luck came in 1986 when her younger brother, Christos, was born, and her mother stayed home with the children.

Crystal Gayle was born Brenda Gail Webb on 9 January 1951. She is the last born of eight Clara Marie and Melvin Theodore Webb children. Of her seven siblings, she’s the only child born in a hospital. Her father was a coal miner who developed black lung cancer disease. The family moved to Wabash for better medical treatment when Gayle was four. Her new home was in an urban setting, exposing Gayle to different styles of music. She sang along to songs she heard on the radio and got inspired by her sister Loretta Lynn’s music.

Career

Crystal Gayle’s musical journey started at a young age when she’d sing in church, perform folk songs, and record demonstration songs. She began touring during summers in high school with Lynn. After graduating high school, Gayle got signed by her sister’s label, Decca Records. She was asked to change her name since Brenda Lee was already signed to Decca. Gayle settled for Crystal Gayle.

Gayle’s first professional gigs included regular appearances on the television show by Jim Ed Brown, The Country Palace. She would perform her sister’s original songs like Sparklin’ Look of Love and Mama, it’s Different This Time. Gayle’s debut single, released in 1970, is I’ve Cried (The Blue Right Out of My Eyes. Written by Loretta Lynn, the song peaked in the top 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. Gayle’s musical career stalled when still at Decca Record.

In 1974, she signed with United Artists Record. Her musical style shifted, encouraged by the studio’s producer, Allen Reynolds, to record a softer, mellow format. She released her first United Artists single, Restless, in 1974, which peaked at No.39 on the Billboard country songs chart. Her first self-titled album was released the same year, reaching No.25 on the Billboard Top Country Albums survey. She has released several albums with many hit singles like You Miss a Real Good Thing (Till He Say Goodbye) and Talking in Your Sleep.
